What You Need to Know Before Having Makeup

Regardless if you are preparing for an event (like wedding, reunion, birthday party and others) or you only want to know more about makeup, you have come to the right place. Most women are not aware of the things that they should do before applying makeup. They just wash their face with water then go straight to putting on their makeup or to their makeup artist. To give you a fresh start (and correct your ways), read below:

You have to prepare your skin before makeup

Some people do not know the importance of skin preparation: It helps you achieve a natural, glowing skin. You no longer need as much makeup if you prepare your skin correctly before applying makeup. It will only take a few minutes of your time.

Clean your skin. Look for a gentle cleanser that will not hurt your skin. Buy a product that does not contain alcohol, fragrance and others. If you have a dry skin, opt for a facial cleanser that has low pH numbers (preferably 4 or 5). If you have oily or acne-prone skin, buy the one that has high pH level (6 or 7). This gives your skin the ability to curb bacteria. Wash your face gently then rinse with warm water.

Exfoliate to remove dead skin cells. Using a cotton pad, apply toner on your face and neck then moisturizing cream. Remember that you need to press the face cream on your face and neck (do not rub) to promote blood circulation and give that natural look. Afterward, spray using Evian Water Mist or Rose Water for added hydration; let your face and neck dry naturally. This skin preparation routine will make you look fresh and feel hydrated.

Talk to your makeup artist

It’s your big day thus you hire an artist to do your makeup. However, never leave everything up to him/her. Tell your makeup artist the look that you want to achieve. Research and give him/her sample pictures so he/she can understand what you want. Inform him/her of your skin type so he/she will use the right products on your face. Opt for a trial run.

Using primer is very important

You have to know that using primer is essential as it will generate a smooth base for foundation and make your makeup last longer – even in extreme weather. It also conceals wrinkles, fine lines and large pores. There are also primers available specifically for eyelids to avoid creasing. Many people ignore this step; do not be one of them.

Use your fingertips to apply primer for larger areas. A brush (concealer or lip brush) is recommended for small spots.

Distinguish the look that you want to achieve

Before meeting or hiring a makeup artist, you should have already made up your mind on the exact look that you want: Do you wish to appear as a woman with a complete natural face or with makeup on? This will make things easier for your makeup artist.
